Brazil: desFocus (The Outside Eye)

Paço das Artes is exposing the photographic exhibition Brazil: desFocus (The Outside Eye), that reunite 77 pieces of 28 foreign artists, composing a mosaic free of stereotypes or prejudices against Brazil.

Besides the works of photographers from USA, England, Spain, Italy, China, Serbia, Mexico, Portugal, Germany and Argentina, the exhibition also brings, among detaches, photos by Andy Warhol (Pop Art founder), by the Scottish singer David Byrne and by the multimedia artist Matthew Barney.

The curatory done by Paulo Herkenhoff and Nessia Leozini detached the particular views of each artist for geographic, architectonic, cultural, anthropologic, social and ethnographic Brazilian details, registered in distinct moments in the last three decades. Curators opted for selecting exclusively foreign works to destabilize a nationalist focus upon Brazil.
